host 45 uptime?

i noticed several times that the uptime of the host45 was not that good. right now it seems that the server was restarted less than a day ago. i do remember a email notification about a host 45 being restarted for a kernel update but i think it was around 3 -4 weeks ago.

I'm not very concerned about the restarts since it doesnt effect me much (only uses the host for email server and already have a backup server for it) but just wondering about the low uptime.

Hi. Yes, there appears to be a problem with that host server. When it does those restarts it causes a few minutes of downtime to the VPSs. We are working on identifying the cause (hardware or software) and resolving it.

Are you any closer to resolving the issue? That host is rebooting like a Windows Box on Patch Day. Well, maybe not that frequently, but "several reboots a week" is not an impressive showing.

Hi. We are not sure why this server is restarting. It has been running OK for the last 5 days. When it does restart it causes a few minutes outage until the VPSs come back up. We will continue to monitor the situation and do what we can to resolve it.

I understand that an earlier version of the Xen kernel had a bug which caused spontaneous reboots. Is it possible this host is running an earlier version of Xen that has this problem? Just a thought...

The server is running the latest, stable xen kernel. It has not had any problems since my last post.

Yes, I received that notice fairly soon after posting, thanks. Here's hoping that the hardware swap will solve the issue, and the problem will be history within 24 hours.
