I just wanted to verify that if I'm on host10 that once the move is complete I'll be on a Xen based box instead of a UML based box? The e-mail said it would allow you to do this but wasn't sure if that meant that's what you are definitely going to do or not.
Thanks!

Yes, after the copy/move you will definitely be moving to xen.
FWIW: We have migrated a few file systems from UML to Xen and that process is quite smooth and has been troublefree. And Xen performs well and stably.

That's more than fine with me. I was hoping to get moved over to a Xen system. Should I go ahead and just enter a ticket now if I also want my system upgraded to the last distro?
Thanks again!

Hi. If you want a new distro install then just pop in a support ticket and we'll do that for you now. You can scp off the data from your old server. And we will shut it down at the end of the month.
If you want to have both the old and the new file system mounted on the same VPS, then I suggest you wait until after the copy/moves are done.

Peter -- This would probably be a good time for me to move to a new distro (my VPS on host5 is actually still running RH8).
Am I too late, or would that still be possible?
I'd be happy to scp things from the old VPS to the new. All I'd really need is an IP addr and a root password to a new VPS and a couple of days to get things set up on the new VPS, then I'd be ready to shut down the old VPS.
I do my own DNS, so it'd make things easy on you -- you wouldn't even have to move my filesystem!
If this is possible, I'll put in a support ticket.
Also, if this is possible, it'd be good to know the deadline for when the old VPS has to be shut down, so I can make sure to have everything done in time.
Thanks much,
Roger Lange

Hi Roger. Just pop in a support ticket and say:
"I'm on host5. Please setup a new VPS for me at the dallas data center. I'll migrate over my files from my old VPS. Then you can shut it down on Wednesday (if I need more time I'll let you know)."
Everyone: Just an update on the current status. Yesterday the new servers we had ordered all arrived. They've been assigned IPs and we are in the middle of doing xen installs on the box.

New IP Details
The new servers are now ready.
The IP changes are all listed per http://downloads.rimuhosting.com/ipchanges.html. I have updated your IP details in our control panel at http://rimuhosting.com/cp so your details are now the 'new values'.
Since we have not migrated your VPS to the new servers just yet, the control panel VPS restarts, and bandwidth figures will not be correct/work.
Timeline
On Tuesday 1 Nov starting at 2200UTC we will need to take most VPSs off line for 10-30 minutes to prepare them for the move.
Next Monday (Nov 7, 2200UTC) we will begin copying everyone's file systems over to the other data center. That process will take a few hours. When we are done, we will post here.
Anyone who wants a copy/move _before_ Monday Nov 7, please just put in a support ticket. We will copy your VPS file system to the new data center.
If you need to have minimal time between when your VPS is copied over and when the IP address changes we strongly suggest you take this option. e.g. if you have a MySQL database that is being frequently updated, you will probably want to keep the time between when we copy your VPS and when you change your DNS to a minimum.
DNS Changes: ** Your Action Required **
After we have copied across your VPS you can update your DNS settings. Note that our DNS manager has a 'change ip' function that lets you change an IP across multiple zones that you may have setup and multiple DNS records.
If you are not using our DNS servers for your domain names we suggest you do that now: setup your domain 'zones' in our DNS manager, then have your domain name registrar point to ns1.rimuhosting.com and ns2.rimuhosting.com for your domain name.
Deadlines For IP Changes
We will stop all the VPSs on the 'old' servers on Wednesday (Nov 9). If you need the old VPS up longer than that, please put in a support ticket and we can keep it up for you until Nov 15.
Clean Installs
If you would prefer a clean install (say RHEL4 or Debian Sarge) rather than us bringing over your file system, just put in a support ticket with that request. We will setup your new VPS and you can scp across any files you need from your 'old' VPS.
Where did the extra memory come from?
We have brought the VPSs in line with the MiroVPS plans. In most cases this means your allocated memory on the new server will have increased by 16-64MB. In no case should your memory be less that it was before.
Need Something Done Differently?
If you have any special requirements that you need us to take into account, please just pop in a support ticket with what you want us to do. We will work to accomodate your request.
Thanks for your understanding while we make these changes. We appreciate the disruption that IP changes can cause and we are trying to do all we can to make the process as smooth as possible.

It's Tuesday and I haven't received anything via email. . . can you give me an update? I assumed there would be emails sent out today with new IP information and stuff. . .
(There. This time I'm posting this message in the correct thread!)

*sigh* It was the right thread this time, but I was totally confused:
I was thinking reptep's last post applied to everyone, even myself on Host 55.
Today just isn't my day. . .

Hi. Nope, the email applies to only people on the host servers mentioned in the title.
I sent emails out to everyone yesterday. Each VPS has now been copied over to the new servers.
Customers should be switching their dns' to point to the new IP.
We will be stopping the 'old' servers for everyone (except those who need the old VPS up and running for longer) on 9 Nov.
