View Full Version : Trying to understand DNS options

Hi,
I'm a newbie here. Just firing up my first virtual server. I've had lots of websites hosted "the regular way", but this is my first foray into having my own virtual server and setting things up.

Initially, my needs for DNS will be pretty simple, and I could just put in a support ticket to have rimu set up a few domain names for me. Over the course of the next couple of years, however, I plan to set up a few dozen domain names on this server (and spread them to other servers if/when they get significant traffic). Since there will eventually be a large number of domain names, I'm thinking I would like to be able to do the setup myself.

I've started out with just the webmin control panel. It seems to have provisions for setting up BIND on my server to do my own DNS (but only if I get a second IP address). I would rather just use the rimu DNS servers.

What I haven't been able to find anywhere is instructions for how I can go about setting up my domain names on the rimu DNS servers. Is this something that is only available using the Plesk Control panel instead of webmin? Is there some other interface for it that I haven't found yet? Is it only accessible to the support crew, and requires a support ticket to set up a new domain?

Thanks in advance for shedding some light on this. :)

best,
jp

Log into https://rimuhosting.com/cp/

Click the "Manage your DNS" link (4th from top)

I think you'll be able to figure the rest out from there.

Thanks Admiral,
Much to my surprise I did figure it out from there. I hadn't even realized that there was both the webmin cp and the vps cp. Two different control panels for different things!

I'll catch on eventually.

thanks,
