Are you constantly twiddling with a new BASH script or 'trying out' different email and web servers? Do you lose sleep due to the excitement of the imminent release of the latest [insert your favorite Linux distro here]? Do you get a perverse thrill from troubleshooting and resolving obscure problems and error messages?

Is so, then I am afraid you may have a Linux addiction problem and you should probably seek help from family or friends.

The good news is, that if that does not work out, then we may want to hire you!

RimuHosting is looking for one or more people to cover support.

The work includes assisting customers with their servers – installing applications, and troubleshooting problems; setting up new orders; and answering sales queries.

The work can be done from home/remotely.

Because all our customers are Linux guru's themselves (and you will be supporting them) then you will need to be better at Linux/OSS than 95 out of a 100 other Linux users. Are you that good? And can you communicate in a friendly, professional manner? If so, then we really, really want you to work for us.
Specifically, we are looking for:

* Someone with a passion for Linux. You will likely have have been using Linux for a long time; you will have run Linux on your home PC; you will be able to debate the merits of various Linux distros, you'll know why qmail is evil (or not); you will be happy compiling applications from source and installing PHP- or Python-based web applications; you’ll have worked with a variety of software like Sendmail, postfix, zope, apache, and procmail; and very likely you'll be a customer of ours already (though that's not a prerequisite).

* Someone who likes a challenge and enjoys helping others. You may help friends with their computers or perhaps you post regularly in forums and mailing lists assisting others with problems.

* Someone who wants to gain IT experience working for a company that considers awesome support is the holy grail of hosting. When we say 'support worth raving about' we mean it!

* Someone who can write clearly (in English), is addicted to Linux, enjoys helping others and wants to work for a company that tries its darndest to provide great customer service.

Why work for RimuHosting? Well, we value our staff (and consider them our biggest asset) and work hard to treat them well. We are flexible with work rosters (e.g. take a long weekend when you need it, just let us know ahead of time). The people you will be working with will be good, friendly decent folks with smarts and lots of Linux knowledge. And the work from home setup can be very convenient (e.g. some of our current staff work here part time and also do freelance software development). The work is varied, challenging and interesting. And we reward hard working, helpful staff with regular bonuses.

You would need to commit to working at least 3 hours a shift, 3 or more days a week. We have a few slots that are open, so just let us know what works best for you.

(You don't have to work all those days, or all the hours in a particular shift. We're just looking for you to fill 3 or more days at 3 or more hours at a time).

The hourly rate will be between $US14 and $US24/hr.

We are looking to fill these positions starting ASAP and it would be an ongoing role.

Inquiries for this position can be directed to me via email (p.jobs _at_ rimuhosting.com) in the first instance. Please also let us know which hours you would be able to do on a regular basis. Include days of week and times (including your timezone).

We receive quite a few applications for these positions. Want to make a good impression?
- Tell us what applications and distros you have used. Where (job/home/school)? Why (curiosity/job/personal use)? How well do you know them (wrote them/know them inside out/familiar enough with it to figure most things out)?
- Point us to a few places where we can see how you communicate on technical matters. e.g. your blog or mailing list/forum posts (patches submitted to OSS projects, questions you've asked, help you've given).
- Include the regular stuff like a resume if you have one.
- Make it clear to us why you're a brilliant guru that is passionate about Linux, that lives it and breathes it that could troubleshoot any problem that comes your way in a friendly, professional way.

I'll look forward to hearing from you!

- Peter
