LDAP server

I'm trying to get an LDAP server setup on my VMS for use with phpgroupware http://www.phpgroupware.org but it keeps sayingit cant connect to the server. I have checked it and it all seems to be installed properly.
Also does anyone know if it is possible to get the accounts/groups from PAM into LDAP?

How about apt-cache search ldap and installing the ldap server package and starting it up?
