RimuHosting's support 'head quarters' has been a small office the main street in Cambridge, NZ for the last 4 years.
We have 5 guys there now and we're pretty much maxing out our space.
And we are working on trying to find another 2 or 3 people to work out of the Cambridge office.
We managed to lease the floor of the office building we were in. Taking us from about 50 sq m to about 240 (which is way more than we need so we'll likely sublease our 'old' offices at one end of the floor and use the 'new' space at the other end of the floor).
The building was built about 26 years ago. The floor we leased has been an office for an insurance company, a firm of accountants, and a law partnership. The lawyers got put in prison for a while, which pretty much put an end to that tenant. And the floor has largely been unoccupied in the years since.
The decor hasn't been touched since. And it is a bit 'closed' - some individual offices, and a small open area.
Our current space is all open plan and the consensus seems to be that that works well. At least with 'just' the 5 of us there.
So we are removing a couple of offices to open up some space. Then planning on putting in a heat pump, new carpet, and repainting the place.
Removing just one of the offices (which blocked a big window) has made the space much bigger and a lot brighter.
We're just a day into the process now. And there's probably a few weeks yet to go.
