You might want to look into a product called asterisk ... but its a bit memory heavy so maybe not the best thing for the VPS.

Yep, I have 128Mb memory for my VPS so if application is a bit heavy than it is no use for me. Any other thoughts or HOWTOs?

I would suggest looking here http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Open+Source+VOIP+Software and reading up a bit to see what it is you need. Other than that I'd say just download Skype to your desktop and use that
