RimuHosting, as some of you may know, is staffed by Kiwis (aka New Zealanders).

For anyone familiar with kiwis you probably know that means we are rugby mad.

This year we are playing hosts to the British Lions who will be touring New Zealand during our winter. A tour is a rare event nowadays. Test teams fly in, stay in a hotel, play a couple of tests and fly out. 20 years ago - before the professional era - international teams used to play tests agains our national team, the All Blacks, as well as playing a select few provincial teams. You'd have world-famous rugby players up against local dairy farmers (who probably milked cows before heading off to the game).

So this year - NZRFU ticket ballot willing - I'll be heading off to provinces to watch a few Lions games. And maybe even a test. And if I can't be there in person (with a son or three) then I'll be catching each game from the couch, home theatre system volume cranked up and projector screen down.

I'm also looking forward to a few games of cricket this month and next. Cricket, for those in the US not familiar with this gentlemans game, can take up to 5 days to play. It often ends in a draw even after that long (unless you are playing Australia, in which case you'll probably lose inside of 3 days).

February sees New Zealand up against the all conquering Aussies (they have to lose some time, don't they?) And in a few days there will be a World XI - including a few Kiwis - against an Asian XI in a tsunami relief fund raiser.

What sporting event are you most anticipating in 2005 in your corner of the world?

There is a outdoor pep rally for the Eagles game (Phila. PA US, football) this Sunday. It’s 20 F outside today, how much pep do you need.

What a horrible question to ask! . . . Just kidding, of course. But the NHL (hockey) did decide to cancel the season today, hence my mock outrage.

With no hockey, I haven't been paying much attention to profesional sports lately.

The Brier (Canadian national curling championship) is coming up next month. Since it's in Edmonton (the city where I live) I might see if I can get tickets. (For those of you who don't know, curling is the sport where you throw rocks down the ice, sometimes sweeping them. You've probably seen it at the winter olympics). I also play in an curling league (amatuer, though).
