'Cool Personal Site' Contest

If you are using your server to run a personal website then please check out our Cool Personal Site (http://forums.rimuhosting.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=289#289) contest. We're looking for sites that are using their RimuHosting server to host a personal site with something different and interesting. We will pick one site and give them two month's free hosting.

Howto Updates

February saw us make a number of additions to the howtos (http://rimuhosting.com/support/howtolist.jsp) on the RimuHosting.com (http://rimuhosting.com/) web site. We get a lot of positive feedback on these howtos and like to keep them up to date, accurate and relevant to our users.

On the email front we have one on setting up web based email (with squirrelmail) (http://rimuhosting.com/support/settingupemail.jsp#squirrelmail) for your users. And a heads up on a growing ISP practice of SMTP/Port 25 blocking (http://rimuhosting.com/support/settingupemail.jsp#blockingisp) (and how to work around it).

Anyone interested in improving the performance and reliability of their server should take a look at the updated memory troubleshooting howto (http://rimuhosting.com/howto/memory.jsp). If you are running a Java process, SpamAssassin or Apache (on Debian) then it is a 'must read'.

For Plesk users we have added a couple of tips for removing any admin user lockout (http://rimuhosting.com/pleskhowtos.jsp#lockout) and for running a secondary DNS server (http://rimuhosting.com/pleskhowtos.jsp#secondary).

MySQL users may be interested in reading about the 'old-passwords' (http://rimuhosting.com/howto/mysqlinstall.jsp#old-passwords) setting now in MySQL 4.1.x. And for a tip on getting into MySQL if you ever forget your password (http://rimuhosting.com/howto/mysqlinstall.jsp#forgotpassword).

And finally we've added a fix for you if you ever get a 'no data' (http://rimuhosting.com/howto/php.jsp#nodata) error on a file upload to a PHP script.

Fedora Core Distro 3 Added; RHEL4 Update
We now have an FC3 distro available. If you are interested in switching to it (e.g. from an FC1 or FC2 distro, then please check our 'changing distros' howto. (http://forums.rimuhosting.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=290#290). The Fedora project releases are quite frequent. Often it is worth 'skipping' a release or two. e.g. waiting for FC4 to come out. And if you don't like constant upgrading, consider switching to one of the 'long life' distros (like WBEL3 or Debian). See our page on choosing the distro that suits you best. (http://rimuhosting.com/distros.jsp).

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 has been released in the last couple of weeks. We have had a couple of inquiries about when we will be offering a RHEL4-type distro. We are working on that now. We are considering WBEL4, CentOS4 and perhaps even a RimuHosting Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) option. We will select an option and shortly announce which one it is going to be.
